Some of us fall prey, at times, to focusing too much on the future. Now don’t get me wrong we have to spend time working on the business and focusing on long-term goals. What I mean is sometimes we lose focus of the opportunities right in front of us while focusing on the long-term vision of where we want to be.
Many of you have heard the story of the adjacent possible and our businesses run on this theory. Our practices are made up of a series of situations and the situations we are in right now define what the focus of our business is. It doesn’t mean we don’t need to focus on getting to the next situation or the next set of possibilities, it just means that for our practices to succeed we need to focus on what opportunities are in front of us right now. Said another way we need to “be where your feet are.”
So if you are in growth mode, go grow your practice. If you are in the process of planning your succession go plan your succession. As we chip of the little tasks and follow through, exhausting every resource in our particular situation a new situation will appear with new resources and new issues to address. That’s what makes this business fun.
I wish all of you a very Happy Holiday season and look forward to the New Year and working together towards some awesome goals.
